Hyde Park police arrest woman, shut down spa after prostitution allegations

HYDE PARK — A Flushing, Queens woman was arrested Wednesday after police alleged she was operating an unauthorized business and offering illegal massage services at a spa in Hyde Park.

Police detained Zhanglian Liao, 48, at approximately 3 p.m. at the Pine Woods Spa, 7 Pine Woods Road, Suite 6.

Liao was charged with unauthorized practice, a Class E felony under New York State Education Law § 6512, and with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor under New York Penal Law § 230.00.

According to the Town of Hyde Park Police Department, the investigation began after officers received multiple complaints from community members about suspected illegal activity at the business.

Town police launched an investigation with assistance from county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Authorities said the Pine Woods Spa was closed as a result of the inquiry, and Liao was released on an appearance ticket.

She is scheduled to appear before Judge McArthur in Town of Hyde Park Court at 5 p.m. Sept. 4 for arraignment.
