BOSTON — A 17-year-old male was arrested Wednesday on multiple firearm-related charges after fleeing a traffic stop and discarding a weapon during a foot chase.
Officers were alerted at about 6:29 p.m. of an attempted robbery on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, according to Boston Police Department.
Police broadcast a description of the suspects, who were seen fleeing on a scooter after one suspect attempted to rob the victim of a firearm.
The suspects were observed operating their scooter on Blue Hill Avenue toward Talbot Avenue.
Officers activated their marked cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the scooter failed to stop.
The scooter was later seen stopped in traffic, and officers were able to box in the suspects.
The passenger exited the scooter and fled on foot, while the operator escaped.
A foot chase ensued with the passenger, who was seen running toward 155 Talbot Avenue.
Officers observed the suspect throw a firearm from his right hand onto the roof of the building.
The suspect was placed into custody and a firearm was recovered.
District B-3 detectives responded to process the evidence.
The firearm was determined to be a Taurus 9mm with an attached flashlight and 12 rounds in the magazine.
The juvenile is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a large capacity firearm.
