GATES — A Rochester man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at an Amazon warehouse that left a 24-year-old dead last month.

Luis Ortiz-Vega, 28, of Rochester, was taken into custody Wednesday at approximately 6:30 p.m. by the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force along with members of the New York State Police and Rochester Police Department.

Ortiz-Vega is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Markis Ortiz-Harris, 24, of Rochester.

The shooting occurred Saturday, July 24, at about 5:45 p.m. at the Amazon warehouse at 2600 Manitou Road in Gates.

Gates police officers arrived to find Ortiz-Harris had been shot and began treating him for his injuries.

Gates police identified Ortiz-Vega as the suspect early in the investigation and learned he had fled the state after the incident.

Gates police investigators worked with U.S. Marshal Chuck Salina and the U.S. Marshals Office to follow out-of-state leads.

The investigation later indicated Ortiz-Vega had returned to the Rochester area.

Task force members observed Ortiz-Vega getting into a car in Rochester on Wednesday and conducted a traffic stop.

Ortiz-Vega was taken into custody without incident.

He is pending arraignment in Monroe County CAP Court.

The investigation was assisted by the New York State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Greece Police Department, Monroe County Office and Gates Special Police.
