CHESHIRE — The Cheshire Police Department will increase patrols and conduct more frequent location checks at all schools and houses of worship following a shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.

The department announced the proactive measures Tuesday to reassure the community after what officials called a “tragic and senseless act of violence.”

Police said there is no known threat to the area but are taking the steps out of an abundance of caution due to heightened community concerns.

The increased security efforts are part of the department’s commitment to ensuring safety and peace of mind for residents and faith communities, according to the announcement.

Officers remain in close communication with regional law enforcement partners.

Police are encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity immediately.

The department extended condolences to the victims, their families and the Minneapolis community affected by the school shooting.
