KEENE — Police have charged a 20-year-old Westmoreland man with four counts of vehicular assault following an investigation into a multi-vehicle crash on Route 9.
Cesar Alexis Medina was arrested after police determined his eastbound vehicle crossed the center line into the westbound lane on Aug. 17, causing a collision with an oncoming vehicle near Chesterfield Hill.
A westbound motorcycle subsequently crashed while attempting to avoid the initial collision.
Medina was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled for arraignment in 8th Circuit Court-Keene on Oct. 6.
The Keene Fire Department responded to the crash at 10:28 a.m. on Aug. 17 at Route 9 West near the Westmoreland town line.
Fire officials reported extensive damage involving two vehicles in a head-on collision and a motorcycle, with seven total patients and one person trapped.
A Level 1 Multi Casualty Incident was declared due to the size of the incident.
Fifteen Keene Fire Department personnel responded along with mutual aid units from Spofford, Cheshire County and Rescue Inc.
Seven injured patients required transport to area hospitals.
Two patients were taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital in Vermont, four to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, and one was airlifted by DHART helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
The two passenger vehicles involved in the crash are considered total losses.
