HOOSICK FALLS — A local woman was arrested Monday on multiple charges of animal cruelty and child endangerment after police received a report of possible animal abuse.
Kaila M. Crawford of Hoosick Falls faces five counts of animal cruelty under New York State Agriculture and Markets Law and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child under state penal law.
Police responded to a report concerning animals living in deplorable conditions without access to food or water.
Officers discovered five dogs in distress at Crawford’s residence.
All animals were visibly malnourished and lacked basic necessities, including adequate food, water and proper shelter, according to police.
The dogs were confined in unsanitary conditions, including areas contaminated with feces.
Police said the animals were not receiving appropriate medical care for visible health issues.
All five dogs were removed from the residence by the Animal Control Officer and are receiving veterinary care and shelter.
Officers determined that children were residing in the same hazardous conditions, leading to the additional child endangerment charges.
Village Code Enforcement and Child Protective Services were notified and are involved in the ongoing investigation.
Officer Dupras and Chief Mahan are investigating the case.
