NORWOOD — Officer DiBlasi was conducting traffic enforcement in the South Norwood area Sunday at approximately 6:00 p.m. when he observed a vehicle whose registered owner had a suspended license.

When Officer DiBlasi attempted to stop the vehicle on Lenox Street near the railroad bridge, the driver initially pulled over but then fled at a high rate of speed, reaching nearly 90 mph.

Due to the danger posed to the public, the pursuit was quickly terminated.

Moments later, multiple witnesses reported seeing items being discarded from the fleeing vehicle along Pleasant Street.

Officers responded and recovered numerous pre-packaged baggies containing nearly 50 grams of powder and crack cocaine.

An ongoing investigation is underway to identify the operator of the vehicle, who will face multiple criminal charges including trafficking cocaine, failure to stop for police, speeding, marked lanes violation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
