2 Queens men arrested after separate police pursuits on Grand Central Parkway

QUEENS — Troopers from Troop NYC, SP Ward’s Island made arrests from two separate pursuits Tuesday night.

Troopers arrested Jasir Anwar, 22, of Queens, for fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor, reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and speeding.

While patrolling the eastbound Grand Central Parkway in the vicinity of Exit 19, troopers observed a grey Acura sedan traveling at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle failed to stop when the troopers attempted to stop the vehicle.

Due to safety concerns, troopers disengaged from pursuing the vehicle, but later conducted an investigation and identified the operator and registered owner of the Acura, Jasir Anwar.

Anwar was located, placed under arrest and transported to the NYPD 107th Precinct for processing.

Anwar was then lodged in Queens Central Bookings, to be arraigned at a later time.

Troopers also arrested John Carvajal, 21, of Queens, for reckless endangerment in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor, reckless endangerment of property, a class B misdemeanor, reckless driving, a misdemeanor, the Move Over Law, and many other vehicle and traffic violations.

A trooper was on a traffic stop of an uninvolved vehicle on the eastbound Grand Central Parkway prior to Exit 10, when a secondary trooper who was assisting on the traffic stop, observed a blue Mini Cooper speeding in the shoulder towards them without its headlights on.

The Mini Cooper then swerved at the last moment, narrowly avoiding striking the trooper outside of his vehicle.

The trooper then began a pursuit of the vehicle, but due to safety concerns, terminated the pursuit.

However, troopers conducted an investigation into the incident and were able to arrest the motorist, John Carvajal, later that morning.

Carvajal was transported to the NYPD 112th Precinct for processing, he was then transported to Queens Central Bookings to be arraigned at a later time.
