WEBSTER — A high-speed pursuit that began in Webster early Friday morning ended in Worcester after a suspect intentionally rammed police cruisers, authorities said.
Webster Police Officer Alex Johnson spotted an Infiniti Q50 without a front license plate on Main Street at approximately 2:42 a.m. Aug. 15.
A check of the rear plate revealed it was stolen and registered to a different vehicle, police said.
The driver fled when Johnson attempted a traffic stop on Gore Road, leading police on a chase that reached Interstate 395 North.
The suspect shut off the vehicle’s lights and reached extremely high speeds before Johnson lost sight of the car, according to police.
Auburn Police officers later located the vehicle and continued the pursuit as it entered Worcester.
On Interstate 290 East, the driver intentionally swerved at Auburn and State Police cruisers before striking both vehicles, disabling his own car, police said.
Two men fled on foot through Worcester’s Vernon Hill area, where police deployed a K-9 unit.
Officers apprehended Samuel McCausland, 19, of Mill Street, Worcester, who had a key fob in his pocket at the time of arrest.
The second suspect remained at large.
Police traced the Infiniti’s VIN number to a car dealership in Abington, where the vehicle had been stolen the previous night, according to Abington Police.
Webster Police charged McCausland with 13 offenses including failure to stop for police, possession of stolen documents and reckless operation.
Auburn Police filed an additional 16 charges against McCausland, including assault and battery on law enforcement with a dangerous weapon and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
