Conquest man arrested on domestic violence charges

CONQUEST — A 33-year-old Conquest man was arrested early Aug. 21 on domestic violence charges following an incident that began while driving home.

Joseph R. Mattice was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a Class A misdemeanor, and menacing in the third degree, a Class B misdemeanor, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to an address in the Town of Conquest at approximately 2:40 a.m. for a domestic incident.

During the investigation, deputies determined that Mattice slapped the victim in the face while they were driving home, causing their nose to bleed.

Mattice also grabbed the victim’s clothing and twisted it around the collar, causing the victim to have difficulty breathing, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mattice fled into a wooded area behind the residence where he was located and taken into custody at 4:09 a.m.

He was transported to the Public Safety Building for processing and will be arraigned at Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
