KINGSTON — A 24-year-old homeless man from Virginia was arrested Tuesday and charged with kidnapping a 14-year-old child from Baltimore, Maryland, and bringing the victim to Kingston against their will.
Omar Gutierrez Sanchez was charged with second-degree kidnapping, a felony, along with misdemeanor charges of second-degree unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police allege Gutierrez Sanchez took the child from the Baltimore area and drove the victim to Kingston.
Gutierrez Sanchez refused multiple requests from the victim and the victim’s family to return the child or allow the child to leave, according to police.
Both subjects were located together in Kingston.
Police said Gutierrez Sanchez and the victim knew each other but have no family relationship or other close relationship.
Gutierrez Sanchez was arraigned in Kingston City Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $200,000 cash bail or bond.
Additional charges are possible in Kingston and Baltimore County, Maryland.
The Kingston Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and the Baltimore County Police Department.
