HAMBURG — A 60-year-old Florida man was killed after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 90 westbound on Aug. 18 at 4:48 a.m.

Darryl K. Jones of Yalaha, Florida, walked from a nearby hotel onto I-90 and into the driving lane, where he was struck by a 2023 Kenworth traveling westbound, according to New York State Police.

The truck operator initially thought the vehicle had struck a deer and continued traveling on I-90.

After reviewing dashcam footage, the operator determined it was a pedestrian and contacted law enforcement.

Jones was found deceased in a nearby ditch.

The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and removed the deceased for post-mortem examination.

Investigators found no signs of foul play and determined the scene was consistent with an accidental death.

The NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit assisted in the investigation.
