WATERBURY — Vermont State Police arrested a Sharon man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly drove erratically and crashed into another vehicle on Interstate 89 Monday afternoon.

James Karg, 55, was taken into custody near mile marker 67 on the Waterbury-Bolton town line at approximately 1:05 p.m.

Police received a report of an erratic driver on I-89 North in Brookfield and located the vehicle near Exit 5.

Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop, so officers deactivated their emergency lights and followed at normal speeds.

Officers observed the vehicle tailgating and swerving as it continued north.

Troopers attempted another traffic stop near Exit 9, but the vehicle again failed to stop and continued operating erratically.

North of Exit 10, near the Waterbury-Bolton town line, Karg’s 2019 Hyundai Ioniq crashed into a trailer being towed by a 2020 Ford F-550 operated by Tucker Weaver, 32, of Ferrisburgh.

The suspect vehicle continued at a slow speed before troopers boxed it in and brought it to a stop.

Troopers observed signs of impairment and arrested Karg on suspicion of DUI, attempting to elude and gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Neither driver was injured in the crash.

Karg’s vehicle sustained moderate damage while the Ford sustained minor damage.

Karg was processed at the Berlin Barracks and issued a citation to appear in court.
