BOSTON — An 18-year-old Charlestown man was arrested Sunday on firearm charges after police say he fled from officers and discarded a bag containing a loaded gun and ammunition in Dorchester.
Eddiarky Nolasco was taken into custody around 9:05 a.m. in the area of Pierpoint Road and Jewish War Veterans Drive, according to the Boston Police Department.
Officers from District B-2 were assisting with crowd dispersal when they observed an individual wearing a black hoodie, black ski mask and carrying a black fanny pack.
Police say as officers approached, the suspect repositioned his fanny pack behind his back and began walking faster while looking back at officers.
The suspect briefly stopped but then fled on foot while clutching the fanny pack, police said.
During the foot pursuit, officers observed the suspect remove the fanny pack and throw it on the ground.
One officer recovered the bag and immediately determined it contained a firearm while a second officer continued the chase and apprehended the suspect.
District B-2 detectives processed the recovered evidence and determined the firearm was a Taurus G3C with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine.
A plastic bag containing twenty-six loose rounds of live ammunition was also recovered from inside the fanny pack, police said.
Nolasco is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, ammunition of unlawful caliber and resisting arrest.
