BOSTON — Officers assigned to District B-3 arrested Ricardo Cadet, 19, of Boston, for unlawful possession of a firearm during a summer festival Sunday evening.

At about 7:57 p.m., officers were monitoring the crowd at 1 Playstead Park when they observed multiple groups on the outskirts of the event.

Officers walked through the crowds and noticed three individuals they had prior interactions with, each carrying a backpack.

Two of the backpacks appeared packed, while the third looked completely empty.

When officers approached the group, one individual attempted to separate himself and walk away.

The suspect was stopped and officers conducted a pat frisk of him and his backpack.

Officers immediately felt what was consistent with the size and shape of a firearm.

Detectives processed the weapon and determined it to be a Beretta Model 96 with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.

Cadet was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, firearm possession while loaded, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
