Berkshire man arrested after ramming truck into gas station

BERKSHIRE — A 41-year-old Richford man was cited on burglary and unlawful mischief charges after allegedly ramming his truck through the front door of a gas station early Friday morning.

Vermont State Police responded to reports of a burglary in progress at Jolley Gas Station at 3:44 a.m. Aug. 15.

Dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a man in a red Chevrolet truck repeatedly ramming the front door of the station.

Police identified the suspect as Amos Lafontaine, who allegedly made multiple attempts to drive his truck through the front door of the closed building.

Lafontaine destroyed the front door before gaining entry to the building and stealing multiple items, according to police.

He fled the scene but was later located and arrested by St. Albans City Police Department on unrelated criminal charges.

Lafontaine was issued a citation to appear in Franklin County Criminal Court on Oct. 6 at 8:30 a.m.
