BRANDON — A Massachusetts cyclist was injured when struck by a pickup truck mirror on Union Street on Aug. 16.

Sherman Chan, 65, of Lexington, Massachusetts, was riding south on Union Street with two other cyclists around 12:16 p.m. when he was struck, Vermont State Police said.

Edward Loso, 43, of Goshen, was driving a 2019 Ram 1500 pickup truck south on Union Street when he failed to provide enough space for Chan, who was riding in the middle of the three cyclists, police said.

The truck’s right passenger mirror struck Chan, causing suspected injuries to his left shoulder and left side of his back, police said.

Chan was transported by Brandon Area Rescue Squad to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Loso was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The truck sustained minor damage to its right passenger mirror.

Police determined Loso did not have a required ignition interlock device in his vehicle.

Loso was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date.
