Rhode Island police arrest 18 in drug, weapons, assault cases

PROVIDENCE — Multiple Rhode Island law enforcement units arrested 18 people on various charges including drug trafficking, weapons violations and assault between Aug. 6 and Aug. 14, according to state police.

On Aug. 6, members of the Intelligence Unit, Violent Fugitive Task Force, Auto Theft Unit and Uniform Bureau arrested Adalberto Pagan Benejan, 40, of Providence.

Benejan faces charges including two counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, two counts of possession of a firearm while in possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of body armor.

He was held without bail after arraignment at Sixth Division District Court.

On Aug. 7, the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Jorge A. Rodriguez, 21, of Providence, on a warrant from Providence police for felony assault, conspiracy and aiding and abetting.

The same day, ACI Investigations Unit charged Jadan Monteiro, 21, of Pawtucket, with possession of a controlled substance less than 10 grams.

Monteiro was granted $1,000 surety bail and remanded to the ACI as a Superior Court violator.

ACI investigators also charged Marquise Mendes, 24, of Pawtucket, with possession of a controlled substance less than 10 grams.

Mendes received $1,000 surety bail and was remanded to the ACI as a Superior Court violator.

Members of the HIDTA Unit arrested Aaron Cabreja, 31, of Cranston, on Aug. 7 for multiple drug and weapons charges including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and crack cocaine, and possession of firearms by prohibited persons.

The same unit arrested Joseph Rothermel, 42, of Warwick, for possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, crack cocaine and methamphetamine.

On Aug. 10, officers arrested Aisha Wilson, 34, of New Shoreham, for obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.

Wilson was released with a future Fourth District Court date.

On Aug. 12, the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, Massachusetts Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Boston Police arrested D’Maury Monteiro, 19, of Boston, on a Cranston police warrant for homicide.

Monteiro was held pending extradition to Rhode Island as a fugitive from justice.

On Aug. 13, the Violent Fugitive Task Force and Burrillville police arrested Michael J. Lafleur, 36, of Warwick, on weapons charges including possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence.

The same day, task force members arrested Antonio Estrada, 28, of Pawtucket, on a Central Falls warrant for domestic felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

On Aug. 14, Gaming Enforcement Unit members arrested Anh Duong, 52, of East Lyme, Connecticut, for embezzlement, fraudulent conversion, obtaining money under false pretenses and fraudulent checks.

HIDTA Task Force and East Providence police arrested Kevin Godinez, 27, and Christopher Godinez, 28, both of Pawtucket, on multiple drug trafficking charges including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and cocaine.

ACI investigators charged four additional people on Aug. 14: Marlene Espinal, 29, of Providence, as a fugitive from Massachusetts; Jalon Rogers, 23, of Providence, for assault with bodily fluids while incarcerated; Jessica Breard, 35, of Providence, for assault with bodily fluids while incarcerated; and Brittany Card, 32, of Warwick, for assault with bodily fluids while incarcerated.

Rogers, Breard and Card each received $5,000 surety bail as Superior Court violators.

Devin Barbosa, 30, of East Providence, was also charged as a fugitive from Massachusetts and remanded pending return to that state.
