WINTHROP — Police are warning residents about scammers claiming to work with the town to offer water filtration systems due to contaminated water supply.
The Winthrop Police Department issued a scam alert after the town was notified of companies calling homeowners with the fraudulent claims.
There are no reports of contaminated water in Winthrop, police said.
The town receives pre-treated drinking water from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, and the quality remains among the highest in the country, according to the alert.
