SANFORD — The State Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating the cause of a camper fire that occurred behind 26 Gerrish Drive on Tuesday.

The fire broke out shortly after 2 p.m.

Initial concerns were raised about the possibility of an occupant being inside the camper at the time of the fire.

However, after a thorough search of the scene, with the assistance of Sanford Public Works, investigators confirmed that no one was inside the camper.

Fire investigators are expected to return to the area today to continue their investigation.

Both the Sanford Fire Department and Sanford Police Department are assisting in the ongoing efforts.
