STAMFORD — Michael Slocum, 36, of Stamford voluntarily surrendered to police Monday afternoon in connection with a disturbance at the Islamic Center on Washington Boulevard.
The Stamford Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit secured an arrest warrant for Slocum related to the incident that occurred Aug. 9 at the Islamic Center located at 1558 Washington Blvd.
Slocum was charged with one count of Breach of Peace 2nd degree after review by the State’s Attorney’s Office.
He was released on a promise to appear as ordered by the court, with a court date of Aug. 26.
The initial investigation began Aug. 10 when the Stamford Police Department Patrol Division responded to a report of a disturbance in front of the Islamic Center that occurred the previous evening.
The incident involved derogatory statements made by a male motorist who stopped in front of the center and verbally engaged with several congregants.
The investigation is being conducted through the Department’s Bureau of Investigation in consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office.
