SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Department officers arrested a 13-year-old male from Enfield, Connecticut in connection with a stolen car at approximately 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Lionel Benoit Road for a report of suspicious activity a few minutes prior to the arrest.

Officers arrived and observed four individuals around a Hyundai attempting to remove a tire.

The group scattered into a wooded area when they saw police, but officers detained and later arrested the 13-year-old male.

The juvenile had a screwdriver, lug nuts and a USB cord in his possession, which is commonly used to steal Hyundais and Kias.

The juvenile’s name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released due to his age.

The Springfield Police Department reminds residents, visitors and neighbors that Hyundais and Kias are still regularly being broken into and attempted to be or are stolen.

Police urge all residents, visitors and neighbors with these vehicles to obtain a highly visible steering wheel locking device to deter these illegal activities.
