Auburn man arrested after traffic stop yields stolen handgun

AUBURN — Members of the Auburn Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Murray St. at approximately 3:18 a.m. Aug. 13.

During the traffic stop, officers identified the sole occupant of the vehicle as Lonnie Bradford.

As the investigation continued, Bradford advised officers on scene that he was in possession of a firearm.

After initially refusing to exit the vehicle, a brief struggle ensued.

Bradford was eventually removed from the driver’s seat of the vehicle and taken into custody.

Upon his removal from the vehicle, a loaded handgun was immediately located and recovered from the driver’s seat by officers on scene.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the handgun was stolen from out of state.

Bradford was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd (Class C-Felony), criminal possession of a weapon 3rd (Class D-Felony), criminal possession of stolen property 4th (Class E-Felony), resisting arrest (Class A Misdemeanor), and two uniform traffic tickets.

Bradford was transported to Auburn Police Department headquarters where he was processed on the charges before being transported to Auburn City Court for arraignment.
