DUXBURY — Officers recovered a vehicle stolen from a DoorDash driver and arrested a Boston woman who provided multiple false identities during the investigation.
On August 10 at approximately 1 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Tremont and West streets after a motorist reported his vehicle had been struck by a gray Honda Civic, which then fled the scene.
The caller followed the vehicle and observed it pull into a driveway on Enterprise Street.
Responding officers were able to stop the vehicle as it was attempting to leave the driveway.
When officers asked the operator of the Honda to produce a driver’s license and registration, she stated that she did not have either in her possession but claimed she was licensed in Mississippi.
The female further stated she had pulled into the driveway to smoke marijuana and displayed a joint and produced a bag of marijuana from her purse.
The operator initially told officers her name was “Layla Marie.”
Officers quickly determined that the female provided a false name.
As officers continued their attempts to determine her identity, the operator repeatedly provided multiple false names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.
A record check of the vehicle revealed it was registered to a party out of Nashua, New Hampshire.
The responding sergeant contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, who informed officers that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day in Brighton as he was making a delivery for DoorDash.
The female was placed under arrest for multiple charges including receiving stolen property.
Upon being taken into custody, she properly identified herself as Essence Booker, a 20-year-old from Boston.
A license check confirmed that Booker did not possess a valid driver’s license in either Massachusetts or Mississippi.
Booker was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,200, motor vehicle operator refusing to identify, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, use of a motor vehicle without authority and possession of marijuana.
