BOSTON — A traffic stop for expired registration led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Dorchester man on firearm charges Monday night after he fled police and was caught following a foot pursuit.

Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Nasiah Floyd of Dorchester at about 10:13 p.m. in the area of Norfolk Street and Elmhurst Street.

Officers on directed patrol noticed a vehicle traveling in the opposite lane without front or back lights illuminated.

A registration check revealed the vehicle’s registration had expired in April.

Officers conducted a U-turn and stopped the vehicle near 25 Peacevale Road.

The operator was told the vehicle could not be driven on public roads due to expired registration and was asked to exit while waiting for a tow truck.

Floyd rolled up his windows and fled the traffic stop, driving through a school parking lot before parking on Armandine Street.

He exited the vehicle and ran toward Milton Avenue, prompting a foot pursuit.

Officers apprehended Floyd and placed him in handcuffs.

A motor vehicle inventory search recovered a Sig Sauer firearm with seven rounds in the magazine.

Floyd is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a firearm without a license second offense, resisting arrest, unregistered motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
