CLARKSTOWN — A 47-year-old Tallman man died early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 87 northbound in Clarkstown.

Steven Redner was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2009 Nissan was rear-ended by a 2014 Ford at approximately 12:39 a.m., according to New York State Police.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Redner’s vehicle was disabled and partially in the lane of travel and on the right shoulder with all lights off for unknown reasons.

A 25-year-old Elmsford man driving the Ford was traveling northbound in the same lane when he struck the rear of the Nissan, causing both vehicles to spin out across all lanes and strike the median on the left shoulder.

The Ford driver received life-saving measures from EMS at the scene before being transported to Westchester Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

State Police were assisted by Nanuet EMS and the Nanuet Fire Department.

All northbound lanes of the New York State Thruway at Exit 12 in Clarkstown were closed but have since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
