BOURNE — A 21-year-old Whitman man was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after his vehicle rolled over on Route 28 early Monday morning.

Officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to the crash at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Route 28 southbound near Brigadoone Road.

The driver was operating a 2014 Ford Escape that veered off the right side of the road, striking a fire hydrant and then a large tree.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll over and land on its roof in the middle of Macarthur Boulevard, approximately 129 feet from where it first struck the hydrant.

Police shut down Macarthur Boulevard from 1:25 a.m. until 3:23 a.m. as the overturned vehicle blocked both lanes of travel.

The driver was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation with possible criminal charges pending.

Police believe drug impairment involving marijuana was a factor in the crash.
