3 teens charged with burglary at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School

VERONA — Three teenagers were charged with burglary in connection with an incident that occurred overnight July 28 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol.

School employees discovered evidence of tampering and damage inside the building when they arrived for work in the morning.

Members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Patrol, Forensic Identification Unit and Juvenile Aid Unit responded to investigate.

School security cameras were reviewed and suspects were identified as former students Aydin C. Varela and Aubrey T. Zabele, both 18, of Verona, and a 16-year-old male juvenile whose name was not released due to his age.

Each suspect was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony.

Zabele was arraigned in Oneida County CAP Court and released on his own recognizance pending his return to Verona Town Court on a future date.

The juvenile was arraigned in Oneida County Court Youth Part and released to a guardian pending his return to Oneida County Court Youth Part on a future date.

Varela was not located and is believed to have left the state.

An arrest warrant for Varela was requested through Verona Town Court.
