2 men charged in Utica garage burglary caught on surveillance

UTICA — Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly breaking into a detached garage and stealing property in an incident captured on surveillance video.

Utica police responded to a residence on the 900 block of Schuyler Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. Aug. 12 regarding a burglary investigation.

The victim told officers he witnessed two individuals enter his detached garage and remove property via surveillance footage.

After reviewing the video, officers issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions.

Additional officers and investigators located the suspects shortly after the alert was issued.

Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department.

Jonathan Young, 53, of Utica, was charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny.

Jeremy Godwin, 43, of Rome, was charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny.
