Brandon man crashes into church after medical event

BRANDON — A 76-year-old Brandon man was transported to Porter Medical Center after experiencing a medical event that caused his vehicle to crash into Brandon United Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon.

Robert King was driving a 2022 Subaru Forester west on Park Street at approximately 3:06 p.m. when he experienced the medical event, according to Vermont State Police.

King’s vehicle continued west through the lawn of H&R Block before colliding with a streetlamp and coming to rest after hitting the church at the intersection of Union Street and Franklin Street.

King’s passenger, 74-year-old Suzanne King of Brandon, was not injured in the crash.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the single-vehicle accident.

The Subaru sustained moderate front-end damage.

King was transported to Porter Medical Center by Brandon Area Rescue Squad with suspected minor injuries.

Road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.

Vermont State Police from the Rutland Barracks investigated the incident with assistance from Brandon Area Rescue Squad and Brandon Fire Department.
