2 arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in Mendon

MENDON — Two men were arrested on cocaine possession charges following a traffic stop on U.S. Route 4 at Meadow Lake Drive on Aug. 5 at approximately 11:03 p.m.

Vermont State Police troopers from the Rutland Barracks conducted the motor vehicle stop for an observed violation.

The driver was identified as Matthew Hayward, 46, of Rutland, and the passenger as Kamal Pettway, 30, of Newark, N.J.

During the stop, troopers observed indicators of drug activity.

Hayward granted consent for a search of the vehicle.

Troopers located suspected cocaine during the search.

Both occupants were arrested and transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing.

Criminal citations were issued to both men on cocaine possession charges.
