BETHLEHEM — A New York state trooper was injured Friday morning when her patrol vehicle was struck during a traffic stop on Interstate 87.
Trooper Kristen R. Sullivan was conducting the stop on I-87 northbound in Bethlehem at approximately 8:44 a.m. when a 2017 Subaru Forester hit the driver’s side of her vehicle.
Sullivan sustained minor injuries and was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of back and neck pain.
The preliminary investigation found that the Subaru swerved onto the left shoulder to avoid a tractor-trailer changing lanes.
The driver then over-corrected, lost control, and struck Sullivan’s vehicle as well as the car from the initial traffic stop.
The tractor-trailer involved was located and stopped shortly after the crash.
At the time of the incident, Sullivan was participating in Speed Awareness Week, a high-visibility enforcement campaign running from Aug. 4 through Aug. 10.
