Boston police recover gun, drugs in Jamaica Plain search

BOSTON — Officers with the Boston Police Department arrested a Jamaica Plain man on firearm and drug charges following the execution of search warrants Tuesday morning.

Police said members of the Drug Control Units from District C-6 (South Boston), E-13 (Jamaica Plain), and D-14 (Allston/Brighton) took Sheldon Bethune, 52, into custody.

The warrants were issued by West Roxbury District Court for 3 Perkins Square in Jamaica Plain.

Authorities observed the suspect leaving the rear of the address and stopped him near Halifax Street and Pond View Avenue.

Bethune was handcuffed and informed of the search warrants.

Officers made entry into the apartment after announcing their presence.

During the search, police recovered a plastic bag containing about 41 grams of crack cocaine, two digital scales, drug cutting material, packaging material, and approximately $2,410 in U.S. currency.

Police also recovered a Ruger P94 firearm loaded with ten rounds in a magazine designed to hold fifteen rounds.

Bethune was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.

He faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large capacity feeding device, improper storage of a firearm, armed career criminal level 3, unlawful possession of a firearm subsequent offense, and trafficking of class B drugs.
