GLENS FALLS — A 45-year-old man was charged after two juveniles were injured by an unsecured firearm in his home last month.

The Glens Falls Police Department responded to 56 Walnut St. at about 11:40 a.m. on July 26 for a reported accidental firearm discharge with injuries.

Patrol officers found two juveniles had been struck and injured by the discharged firearm.

Both required medical treatment.

Investigators determined a loaded handgun had been left unsecured in the residence while the registered owner, Clinton J. Shanks II, was not home.

The juveniles discovered the revolver and accidentally discharged it while handling the weapon.

One round struck both children.

The family cooperated with police during the investigation.

The juveniles were treated and later released from the hospital.

Shanks was arrested Aug. 8 and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and unsafe storage of a firearm, both misdemeanors.

He is scheduled to appear in Glens Falls City Court at a later date.

The firearm was recovered by police.
