2 Syracuse residents arrested in Homer on burglary charges

HOMER — Two Syracuse residents were arrested Aug. 5 by Homer Police Department officers on warrants stemming from a June 2024 burglary.

Carlito K. Walls, 19, of Ashdale Avenue, Syracuse, and Asiya Q. Rice, 22, of Taft Avenue, Syracuse, were taken into custody at the Homer Police Department at 43 ½ James St.

The arrest warrants were issued by the Town of Homer Court in connection with an early morning incident on June 9, 2024, where the defendants allegedly forced entry into a business on South Main Street and stole currency.

Police determined the defendants used a stolen motor vehicle from Syracuse to travel to Homer to commit the burglary.

The investigation revealed the defendants committed similar burglaries after leaving the village in Cortland, Tully, DeWitt and Salina.

Both defendants were charged with burglary in the 3rd degree, possession of burglars tools, petit larceny, criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, conspiracy in the 5th degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the 3rd degree.

The defendants, who are in custody of the New York State Department of Corrections, were arraigned in Town of Homer Court.

Both are scheduled to return to court Sept. 16 at 5 p.m.

They were released Aug. 6.

Detectives and deputies from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Syracuse Police Department officers and New York State Police investigators assisted with the investigation.
