COLLINS — A New York Army National Guard service member was arrested Aug. 1 after being found with marijuana and cell phones while attempting to enter Collins Correctional Facility.
Savian M. Maxwell, 30, of Brooklyn, was taken into custody by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations after a K9 alerted to his vehicle and person during security screening.
A search resulted in the seizure of approximately 176.4 grams of marijuana and four cell phones.
Maxwell was charged with two counts of promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a class D felony.
He also faces charges of official misconduct, a class A misdemeanor; bribe receiving in the third degree, a class D felony; and attempted promoting prison contraband in the second degree, a class B misdemeanor.
Maxwell was processed at State Police Collins and arraigned in Collins Town Court.
He was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center on $10,000 cash bail.
A felony hearing is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 10 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing.
