BOSTON — Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 19-year-old Dorchester man for firearm-related offenses following a traffic stop Monday evening.
Dashaun James was taken into custody after officers recovered a loaded handgun from his pants pocket during the incident on Aug. 4.
Officers were patrolling near Page Street and Glenway Street around 8:25 p.m. when they observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign.
During contact with the vehicle’s occupants, officers noticed an empty fanny pack-style bag at the feet of the front passenger.
After further investigation, both the driver and front passenger were asked to exit the vehicle.
The driver complied with officers’ commands, while the passenger refused to exit.
The passenger would not remove his seat belt and ignored officers’ orders to leave the vehicle.
Officers unbuckled the suspect’s seat belt and removed him from the car.
As officers attempted to conduct a pat frisk, the suspect began resisting by flailing his arms.
The suspect was handcuffed and officers recovered a firearm from his right pants pocket.
The weapon was identified as an Armi Giuseppe Tanfoglio GT27 with one round in the chamber and three rounds in the magazine.
James is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm.
