SOUTHEAST — Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of three individuals for shoplifting from businesses on Independent Way.
On July 30 at approximately 5 p.m., deputies were alerted that a vehicle wanted for felonies out of New Jersey was in the area of I-84 and Route 312.
Deputies and investigators located the vehicle in the parking lot and observed the individuals leaving a store with multiple items that were later confirmed as stolen.
They arrested 35-year-old Latifah R. Smith of Carmel, 28-year-old Shatoya Smith of Newburgh, and 25-year-old Carlan Newby of Beacon.
They were all charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property Fourth Degree and Grand Larceny Fourth Degree, both felonies, and misdemeanor Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item.
Latifah and Shatoya were also charged with being fugitives from Justice as they were wanted for felonies from the Paramus, New Jersey, Police Department.
All three were arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and were remanded to the Putney County Correctional Facility due to multiple felony convictions and warrants.
