SOUTH BURLINGTON — An 18-year-old Burlington resident was cited for negligent operation after being clocked driving 116 mph on Interstate 89 north on Aug. 3.
Vermont State Police troopers were using LIDAR to monitor traffic at approximately 2:23 p.m. when they observed a vehicle traveling north near the Williston Rest Area at a speed well over the posted 65 mph limit.
LIDAR confirmed the vehicle’s speed at 116 mph.
Troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the operator as an 18-year-old juvenile from Burlington through Vermont license verification.
The juvenile was issued a citation to appear at Chittenden County Superior Court, Family Division, to answer to the charge of negligent operation.
The juvenile was also issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for Title 23 Section 1004 – Interstate Speed, which carries a penalty of 2 points and a waiver amount of $751.
