HOMER — A 25-year-old man was arrested Aug. 1 after allegedly fleeing from police on a motorcycle during a traffic stop attempt.

Jacob P. Lyman of Mead Road was charged with reckless driving and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, both misdemeanors.

He also faces several infractions including speeding in a zone, driving to the left of pavement markings, unsafe tire, no license plate on motorcycle and operating a motor vehicle with more than one earphone.

At approximately 8:36 p.m., a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle for a vehicle and traffic law violation on Route 13 in Homer.

Lyman failed to comply and fled on the motorcycle at a high rate of speed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officers were unable to safely follow Lyman and lost sight of him.

A short time later, another deputy located Lyman on Route 281 in the town of Preble.

Lyman was stopped and taken into custody without incident at 8:51 p.m.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Lyman was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process on Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in Homer Town Court on Aug. 19 at 5 p.m.
