STAMFORD — A 13-year-old boy was killed Saturday night when a vehicle struck his mini-bike and fled the scene on Courtland Avenue, police said.
The collision occurred around 8:47 p.m. in the area of 316 Courtland Ave., according to the Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.
The juvenile was riding a mini-bike southbound on Courtland Avenue with a family member who was on a scooter.
Both had pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway for an unknown reason when an unidentified vehicle struck the mini-bike.
The impact threw the 13-year-old from the mini-bike into the yard of a private residence.
Two neighbors heard the collision and came out of their homes to help, performing CPR on the victim until the Fire Department arrived.
The boy was transported to Stamford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite efforts by neighbors, the Stamford Fire Department, Stamford EMS and hospital emergency department personnel.
Police will not release the victim’s identity due to his age.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and is described as a silver Honda, possibly an Accord from model years 2003-2007.
The vehicle may be multicolored with aftermarket parts that do not match the original color.
Police said the suspect vehicle will have significant damage to the front passenger side and is missing part of the front bumper.
No suspects have been identified.
