ROXBURY — A routine traffic stop for failing to stop at a stop sign led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Brockton man on firearm and drug charges Thursday.
Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit troopers arrested Detroi Winborne during the stop in Roxbury.
Police observed Winborne’s vehicle fail to stop at the intersection of Crawford Street and Walnut Avenue before making a right turn onto Walnut Avenue.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle stopped near 283 Walnut Avenue.
Winborne provided a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration, but a query revealed the vehicle’s insurance had been revoked.
Officers observed a large quantity of marijuana and packaging materials consistent with drug distribution inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle yielded one large bag of marijuana, two medium-sized unsealed bags labeled “White Runtz Cannabis Flower,” one digital scale, one box of snack bags and multiple empty marijuana packaging bags.
Officers noticed an uneven bulge under the driver’s side floor mat and discovered a loaded Springfield Armory XD-9 firearm with one round in the chamber and 10 rounds in the magazine.
Winborne is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
He was also issued citations for failure to stop at a stop sign, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
