VEAZIE — A truck hood that flew up and blocked the driver’s view led to a three-vehicle crash that shut down Interstate 95 for several hours Wednesday morning.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., 21-year-old Colby Tear of Greenbush was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup southbound in the passing lane when the hood unlatched and flew up, blocking his view of the highway, according to Maine State Police.

Tear braked hard and attempted to pull over to the median.

A 2019 Toyota Rav4 approaching from behind was unable to stop and collided with the rear of Tear’s truck.

The Rav4 driver was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with non-life-threatening injuries.

A third vehicle, a 2011 Subaru Forester, approached from behind and steered right to avoid the initial collision.

That driver left the roadway and entered the woods.

The Subaru driver was transported with minor injuries and was treated and released.

Tear did not report any injuries.

Southbound traffic was diverted while Maine State Police reconstructed the scene.

Maine Warden Service, Orono Police Department, Maine Department of Transportation, Veazie Fire Department, Orono Fire Department and Old Town Fire Department assisted at the scene.
