NORWALK — A 35-year-old Norwalk woman has been arrested on child abuse charges after school staff identified welts on a 6-year-old student’s back.
Vilma Martinez of 19 Taylor Ave. voluntarily surrendered at the Norwalk Police Department on July 30.
The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Victims Unit received a referral from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families on June 11 regarding the suspected case of child abuse.
Detective English of the Special Victims Unit conducted a joint investigation with the Department of Children and Families.
An arrest warrant was issued for Martinez on July 29.
Martinez was charged with assault in the third degree and risk of injury to a minor.
She was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 31.
