NORWALK — Police have arrested a 33-year-old Norwalk man in connection with a fatal motor vehicle accident that killed a moped operator in April.
Chrishod Johnson was taken into custody July 30 on charges including manslaughter in the second degree with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, and operating in violation of a limited license.
The fatal crash occurred at 3:51 a.m. April 13 at the intersection of West Avenue and Reed Street.
Jose Olavarria, the moped operator, was struck by a vehicle and transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Norwalk Combined Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the collision.
Norwalk Police, Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided medical aid.
The Norwalk Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit and Crime Scene Unit collected and analyzed evidence from the scene.
Officer Wasilewski of the Crash Reconstruction Unit led the investigation, which included canvassing the area for surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and reconstructing the accident.
Following the investigation, Officer Wasilewski applied for an arrest warrant for Johnson.
The Stamford Superior Court issued the warrant July 30, and Johnson was arrested without incident later that day.
Johnson, of 230 East Avenue Apartment C211 in Norwalk, is being held on $50,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 14.
