ROXBURY — Maine State Police are investigating a fatal incident that occurred during a private fireworks display Saturday evening.
Joseph Hennessey, 41, of South Paris was pronounced dead after being struck by a projectile discharged from a mini cannon at approximately 9:24 p.m. July 26 at a residence in Roxbury.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, MedCare Ambulance Service, and Roxbury Fire Department responded to the scene after reports of an individual who had collapsed at a gathering.
Hennessey was transported from the scene by medical personnel but was pronounced deceased.
The Fire Marshal’s Office and Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit responded to assist with the investigation.
An autopsy was conducted at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.
Initial findings indicate Hennessey was struck and killed by the projectile during the fireworks display.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.
