BATH — An officer with the Village of Bath Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a New York State Vehicle and Traffic law violation at about 2:39 p.m. July 27.
Gordon Clayson, 55, of Bath, and Julia Rosekrans, 60, of Bath, were arrested as a result of the stop.
Clayson was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and improper turn signal, a violation.
Rosekrans was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.
An officer observed a vehicle use its turn signal improperly while traveling east on West Washington Street.
Officers made contact with the occupants, Clayson and Rosekrans.
After an interview and observing drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, officers suspected criminal activity.
Following a search of the vehicle and subsequent search of her person, Rosekrans was taken into custody for possessing a quantity of methamphetamine.
During the investigation, officers suspected that Clayson may be operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
Clayson submitted to standard field sobriety tests.
Following the tests, Clayson was taken into custody for driving while ability impaired by drugs.
Both were released on an appearance ticket returnable to Bath Village Court at a later date as the charges do not qualify for bail under bail reform.
Bath Police Department was assisted by New York State Police in the investigation.
