GLOUCESTER — A vehicle rollover crash on Thatcher Road near the entrance of Good Harbor Beach shortly before 7 p.m. July 7 resulted in two people facing drug charges.

A 66-year-old Lynn man was arrested and charged with drunken driving, second offense; leaving the scene of property damage; speeding; negligent driving; and trafficking in fentanyl of 36 grams or more and less than 100 grams.

Police plan to charge a Wakefield woman with trafficking in fentanyl of 36 grams or more and less than 100 grams.

Police responded after multiple calls that a vehicle had rolled over.

Police were also given a report of a crash on Witham Street which was later found to be involved with the initial crash.

Police arrived to find a gray 2017 Jeep Cherokee with heavy damage to its rear and the occupants standing outside, according to the police report.

The Jeep driver said he was driving toward Long Beach when a black vehicle traveling about 80 mph rear-ended his Jeep with enough force that it nearly flipped as it spun around.

The offending vehicle did not stop and headed toward Witham Street.

The occupants described minor injuries and denied medical services.

A witness described what happened and provided contact information and a license plate of the offending vehicle.

Police were able to locate a black 2012 Porsche Cayenne on Witham Street registered to the Lynn man that had heavy front-end damage and airbags deployed.

Neighbors said they had escorted the man from the driver’s seat and a woman from the passenger’s seat.

Both were evaluated by paramedics and refused further medical treatment.

While checking the inside of the vehicle, police noticed several empty nip bottles in the center console, a box of beer and a bottle of vodka.

An inventory turned up a silver container on the front driver’s seat floorboard and a clear vial in plain view on the center console, both of which contained a white powdery substance.

The Porsche driver reportedly said he was driving “way too fast.”

He estimated he was going 45 mph in a stretch of road with a 30 mph speed limit.

Police asked the driver to take a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which police said he failed, and he was arrested.

The woman told police the two stopped at a local liquor store and said the driver only had one nip.

She told police the driver began yelling as they were driving, and that he was speeding when he rear-ended another vehicle.

Police reported the total weight of the powdery substance was 75.3 grams, and tests indicated the presence of fentanyl.

The driver agreed to take a chemical breath test to check his blood alcohol content, which resulted in police suspending his license for failing the test.
