Driver arrested after multi-jurisdictional chase ends in Goshen

GOSHEN — A 21-year-old Alabama man was arrested Tuesday night after leading police on a multi-jurisdictional pursuit that began in New Jersey and ended on State Route 17 in Goshen.

Henry Yovany Bartolo-Gomez of Tuscaloosa was taken into custody at approximately 8:46 p.m. after the chase involving a damaged U-Haul truck, according to the Town of Warwick Police Department.

The pursuit began when Vernon Township Police Department in New Jersey attempted to stop the U-Haul truck involved in a hit-and-run accident.

The vehicle crossed into Pine Island, New York, where Warwick Police officers took over the pursuit.

The U-Haul displayed heavy damage on the passenger side and continued to travel through several roadways within the Town of Warwick before entering the Town of Goshen.

The pursuit concluded when the vehicle stopped on State Route 17, just beyond the Exit 124 entrance ramp.

Bartolo-Gomez was transported to the Town of Warwick Police Department for processing.

He was charged in New York with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, reckless driving, reckless endangerment of property and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

Additional charges were filed in New Jersey, and Bartolo-Gomez was charged in New York as a fugitive from justice.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail, pending extradition to New Jersey.

The Town of Warwick Police Department was assisted by New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Goshen Police Department and Village of Goshen Police Department.
