5 arrested in Searsport drug trafficking investigation

SEARSPORT — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Waldo County Sheriff’s Office and Searsport Police Department announced Monday the arrest of five individuals for drug trafficking charges following a month-long investigation.

Daniel Carchide, 43, of Searsport was charged with one count of aggravated trafficking schedule “W” drugs class A with bail set at $500.

Izaiah Cooper, 27, of Bronx, New York was charged with unlawful trafficking schedule “W” drugs class B with bail set at $500.

Cooper made bail and was released.

Christopher Babb, 27, of Bronx, New York was charged with unlawful trafficking schedule “W” drugs class B with bail initially set at $500, later increased to $2,500 after his initial appearance.

Alyssa Heroux, 36, of Searsport was charged with unlawful trafficking schedule “W” drugs and several arrest warrants with no bail allowed.

Mujaredeen Hassan, 35, of Bronx, New York was charged with aggravated trafficking schedule “W” drugs with bail set at $10,000.

The agencies conducted a joint investigation into the sale of cocaine base from two residences in Searsport over the past month.

On July 17, MDEA obtained search warrants for 7 and 11 Dead Brook Lane in Searsport.

The warrants were executed in the early morning hours with assistance from the Maine State Police tactical team, Waldo County Sheriff’s Office and Searsport Police Department.

Following several undercover drug purchases from the residences, agents arrested Carchide at 7 Dead Brook Lane and Babb and Cooper at 11 Dead Brook Lane.

Two teenage juveniles were removed from the residence and placed in custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Agents seized $3,700 in suspected drug proceeds and 17 grams of cocaine base during the search.

MDEA later learned Heroux, the homeowner of 7 Dead Brook Lane, was selling cocaine base from her residence with an unidentified male.

Agents conducted additional undercover purchases and obtained another search warrant for 7 Dead Brook Lane.

On the morning of July 25, MDEA executed the second search warrant with assistance from Maine State Police tactical team and Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Heroux and Hassan were arrested during the second operation.

Agents seized $9,300 in suspected drug proceeds and 10 grams of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $2,700.

Carchide, Babb, Heroux and Hassan are being held at Waldo County Jail awaiting initial court appearances.
